The Foundation - Day 1

GENESIS – THE FOUNDATION

Understanding the significance of Genesis is so vital because it puts the closest thing to the heart of God into perspective – Himself. He shows us throughout the creation story that He is the first, middle, and the end. It all came from Him, revolves around Him, and will return to Him.  Upon reading Genesis we have an understanding of where we come from, and as we know, recognizing your past is the first step to your future. 

So, through the stories of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah, Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob and Rachel, and Joseph and his brothers, we learn not only about our ancestors or see ourselves in many of their faces; but we also learn how God loves Himself through us… I used to say, I rock out to the cling, clang of mercy & grace as if it were a soundtrack to my life. But as I read and reflect, the lyrics “you’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you” begin to play in my head, because the whole time I thought God showed me mercy & grace because He loved me that much, as if I were the center of His universe. When in reality He is at the center of His universe. I’m just a bystander, helplessly absorbing the remnants of His love for Himself. We are, after all, just a piece of Him.

I will continue to build on this as time progresses! This is just a quick overview for those who may be following along!

WHY 7 Days?
I am on Spring Break. It's only 7 days.

WHAT Bible are you using?
Primary - NLT Student Application Bible
Supplements: NKJV Thomas Nelson Study Bible, The Message, Several Bible Explanation and Application Books; Google :)   

WHAT is the 7 day Plan?
 

Day1: Genesis – Deuteronomy

Day2: Joshua – 2 Kings

Day3: 1Chronicles - Psalm 89

Day4: Psalm 90 - Jeremiah

Day5: Lamentations – Matthew

Day6: Mark – Galatians

Day7: Ephesians - Revelation

HOW many hours are you reading a day?
Well, considering the fact that I am not a reader (slow & steady), I want to know and summarize the information/give God time to speak to me, etc. I would assume 8-10 hours a day. However, I will let you know as I start getting into it. BUT it will definitely be a challenge.

WHY are you doing this?
It's the living, breathing, Word of God!!! No matter how many times I read it, it will never get old and God will never stop revealing new things through it. Also...I've never read the Bible cover to cover.  It will be fun...sometimes you have to mix it up a bit - just like with any other relationship. Ahhh! Adore Him :)

WILL you be balancing any other work?
Yes, actually. I have a pretty intense project I am working on for one of my jobs, I have lesson planning to do for teaching, hosting several people and events during the 7 days. But, the Lord is faithful and He will sustain me. My plan is: 24 hrs in a day. 8 to sleep. 8 to read. 8 to work. Efficiency Organization Planning and Discipline are key. No Compromising! Everything that is not reading or sleeping is work and time will be allotted accordingly.

I am a twenty something single (Jesus has my heart), (never really) satisfied, and (moderately) savvy business woman. All jokes aside, I love this stage of my life! I graduated college a couple of years ago and have been freely flowing from one thing to the next as God calls me. Right now I am a full time teacher (Kamilah loves the kids!) and part-time consultant. I spend the school year in the south and the summer and some weekends in the big apple.  I am an entrepreneur at heart and love helping get businesses off the ground! In my free time I love to do event planning. I am also a health & nutrition nut - after all my body is a temple. VeGan - Most of the Time. I am an avid thrifter (even before the whole thrifting trend) I would not set foot in a mall...it never set well with my spirit :) I'll try to make it before I buy it, and if I can't find it...Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Roses >>> oh yeah! But more so than anything I am totally Obsessed, completely captivated, and crazy in LOVE with Jesus Christ (savior of the world). I am a BIBLE believing Christian ie if the Bible doesn't say it I don't believe it & if the Bible says it I do believe it - unfortunately you do have to clarify these days - highly anticipating His return.  I try to live my life entirely submitted//always at His feet & never satisfied - always hungry//thirsting for more of Him.  Right after God I love people... my family...friends...strangers...all the same. I adore people. & will love them endlessly if they let me!
